This means that all branches responsible for the upholding of the law must share some common ground if the law is to be upheld and/or maintained. Correctional facilities and the courts are there to ensure that offenders do not escape or get away with going against the law. Furthermore, all these branches share a commonality that involves punishment (Samaha, 2013).
